Grade 2 requirements for sizes 1/4" - 3/4" are applicable only to bolts 6" and under, and also to to all lengths of studs. Grade 1 requirements are used for bolts longer than 6"

RECOMMENDED HARDWARE
Nuts should be of the same or greater strength than the bolts they are used with.
Washers used with grade should be hardened.
Alternate grade RECOMMENDATIONS
For fasteners above 1-1/2" in diameter, these ASTM grades may be used.
J429 Grade 2:
A307 Grade A or Grade B
J429 Grade 5:
A449 or A354 Grade BC
J429 Grade 8:
A354 Grade BD
